🔹 About World Population Day:

• An initiative by the United Nations observed every year on July 11.

• Aims to raise awareness about population issues:
  ▪️ Reproductive rights
  ▪️ Gender equality
  ▪️ Sustainable development
  ▪️ Access to healthcare and education

• Focus in 2025: Youth empowerment in family planning and future building.

🔹 History:

• Inspired by “Five Billion Day” (July 11, 1987) when world population reached 5 billion.

• Established in 1989 by the UNDP Governing Council.

• Dr. K.C. Zachariah, a World Bank demographer, proposed it.

• First observed in 1990 across 90+ countries.

• In 1990, UN General Assembly officially endorsed it as an annual event.

🔹 World Population Facts (2025):

• 🌐 Current Global Population: 8.2+ billion

• 📈 Predicted Peak: 10.4 billion (by 2080s)

• 🇮🇳 India’s Population: 1.46 billion (now the most populous country)

• 🇨🇳 China’s Population: 1.41 billion

• 📉 India’s fertility rate has fallen below replacement level.

• 🕒 India’s population will continue to rise before declining after 40 years (UNFPA Report 2025).
